Re: TDIH (WARNING - Contains shameless, indulgent plug) |
elbow -
I listened to that RRE show yesterday - very nice indeed. I was under the weather and couldn't make the the 9/25 show in Richmond, a good friend went and said it was superb, although a very mellow second set. I just wish he would have lied to me when he said he didn't see any tapers.
And I stumbled across this one today checking coming acts to local venues - if nothing else, listen to tracks 7 and 8 - 'Ho Cakes' and 'On Fire'. I almost aspirated my lunch when I heard "Damnnnnnn, she's got an ass like an Army mule."

"stick your hand near my plate and you'll draw back a nub" LOL!
I love listening to James Brown and this has some of that same feel, well without the screaming.
As for RRE, looking forward to Saturday night's show in ATL.

wineland -
Thanks. I just found MOFRO yesterday. I was checking the schedule for the 'Jewish Mother', a local venue that pulls some really good acts and saw JJ Greay and MOFRO on the calendar so I headed over to the Archive to see what I could find. So far I've listened to the 9/13/09, 2/22/02 and 3/28/09 shows and they are all solid. They will be in Va Beach next month and I am definitely going catch the show at JewMa

I first heard them when listening to the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival broadcasting live on a local community radio station. I've returned back to listen to this one several times:

Re: TDIH (WARNING - Contains shameless, indulgent plug) |
Happy birthday- I like the earlier official releases of Mofro better than the more recent. The version of "ho cake" on cd is top notch. You'll also like the Bank Robbery Story. I'm not sure if that's the title, but it is pretty darn funny.
The Mofro boys have a piece of the original Florida Redneck Funk that you can't shake a Tom Petty at.
